Sex Pistols: Silver Machine

John Lydon's a funny bugger, isn't he?  One minute hard line poster boy of the UK punk movement, next minute I'm A Celebrity contestant, with all sorts of vaguaries in between. However, of all the changes he's gone through his hatred of hippies has remained constant. He even has opinions about exactly how 'punk' Iggy Pop was (and they aren't shared by most of the rest of us).

Good to find this video then, of the Sex Pistols opening their 2002 reunion gigs with Hawkwind's Silver Machine. Despite received opinion, Hawkwind were never hippies (who would ever call Lemmy a hippy?). Protopunk, maybe. Early metal, possibly. Space rock, definitely. Hippies never. As Lydon himself says:

"'Silver Machine' was a great start, if people didn't get that, well, they're ignoring punk."

Shame he has to use that ridiculous last-rites-of-PIL voice, but hey, you can't have everything. Everyone after me then:

"I

"I just took a ride

"In a Silver Machine

"And I'm still feeling mean
