It's rare that someone can cover a Bowie track and make it better than the original. This is one of those moments. Bauhaus doing Ziggy Stardust.
This is going to sound silly, but for me Bauhaus were too dark to be really goth (see, said it would sound silly). By the time Bauhaus had split in '83 goth was already becoming pomp and frills - a process finalised in '87 with the release of God's Own Medicine and Floodland.
To me the driving, sparse, genuinely scary sound of The Sky's Gone Out is something entirely on its own, with no comparison and genre-less. It's not an album I can listen to often, but when I'm in the right mood it's one of the best out there.
